Earth
The Sun and Stars

Solar System

Step 1:  Write 'Solar System' in your Table of Contents in your Science Journal
Step 2:  Go to the next open page in your journal and Title it 'Solar System'
Step 3:  Write the 'I Can' Statement at the top of the page
I can identify that there are eight major planets in the solar system
I can compare and contrast the inner and outer planets in the solar system
I can describe the differences between comets, asteroids, meteors and planetoids
I can understand that planets orbit the sun, because they are attracted to its gravitational forces.
I can identify some planets including Earth, have a moon or moons that orbit them because of their gravitational attraction to the planet.

Step 4:  Watch the videos below and read the information in the links listed below
Step 5:  Take notes in your journal of each of vocabulary terms listed below
Step 6:  Answer each of the Essential Questions in your journal
Step 7:  Show your teacher your journal and notes before moving on
Step 8:  Go back to Google Classroom and complete the activity in Google Classroom

Essential Questions

By the time you are done with this unit, you should be able to answer these questions.

Why do the planets orbit the sun?
How might the solar system have been formed?
How would a change in earth's place in the solar system affect the solar system?
How can you classify the planets in our solar system?
