Welcome to Mr. E's 5th Grade Math/Science

Weekly Update

We are coming to the end of our standards for the year as we are getting closer to state testing.  Last week we did graphing coordinate points and finished the week with a scavenger hunt around the school utilizing a coordinate grid laid over a map of the school to find each new question.  Scholars had a great time utilizing their new skills they learned while having fun working with their group to find the Leprechaun Gold!  We are finishing Patterns and Relationships this week with only Geometry left for after Spring Break.  After that we will be reviewing each of the standards from the whole year to prepare for testing.

In Science we are learning about the solar system and Universe.  We learned about how the solar system was formed and how each of the planets came to be in their spot in the solar system along with how to define a planet.  Next we learned about Earth and its observable patterns that we can predict and the effects of those patterns.  Now we will be looking at the Sun and other stars to see how they affect us and the way we view them.

Parents this year your child will be utilizing several digital resources so please make sure to fill out the form that was sent home with your child on the first day of school.  Also, please join ClassCraft so you can see your child's behavior in class and message me with any questions. This year in my class you will be utilizing many online tools and resources to enhance your learning.  We will start by making sure each student can log into their district Google account.  Then, each student will join Google Classroom along with several other digital resources.  
We will be utilizing a Makerspace this year as well!  A Makerspace is where you will have the opportunity to design and create new products that you come up with as well as solve a problem or help you get out of a difficult situation.
